A website with a machine-matching tool for Smart Payment Solutions, Sunderland

A custom site with a matching tool at its centre, fed by a Google Sheet.

The Smart Payment Solutions website on a phone

Smart Payment Solutions compares card machines and till systems from UK providers. Its owner, Paul Huxley, needed a site that helps a business owner work out which machine suits them, then ask for a quote. My team and I built it as a custom site with a matching tool at its centre.

The business

Paul runs the business and has his products in a spreadsheet. A business owner comparing card machines has a lot to weigh up, so the site's job is to narrow it down and lead to a quote.

The matching tool

"Find My Machine" asks for the type of business, how much it takes on card each month and the features that matter. It scores every machine against those answers and shows the top three.

Paul had his products in a spreadsheet, so I built the first version of the tool from it. The live site now reads products, rates and the offer banner from his Google Sheet. When he changes a row, the site picks it up within about a minute.

What else my team and I built

  • A five-step quote form. It opens with the type of business and monthly card takings, so each enquiry arrives with the basics already filled in.
  • Spam checks on the forms. Tracking waits until a visitor accepts cookies. The blog is written in WordPress and shows up on the main site.
  • A cashback section. When Paul asked for it in September 2026, I quoted it in writing as a separate job before I built it.
  • A private POS Asset Generator. It's an internal tool Paul uses himself: he pastes in a product list and it makes one plain-background button image for each product, ready to download.

What it does now, and what Paul says

A business owner answers a few questions, sees the three best matches and asks for a quote. Paul updates his products and rates in his Google Sheet, and the site follows.

Built with

I pick WordPress or Next.js for each job. This one is a custom Next.js build. Here is how websites are built. The data sits in a Google Sheet, and the blog runs on WordPress.

On every website I build, I work to the same terms. The web address is registered in the client's name from day one. The site and everything on it, the files, the words and the photos, belong to the client once it's paid for.

Some businesses need more than pages and a form. When the answer depends on what the visitor tells you, a small tool built into the site can do the first sort.
