Who I work with

Websites for photographers and creatives

Your work shown big and sharp, quick to load on a phone, and an easy way to ask about a date.

I'm Luke Duff, and I do website design for photographers and creatives: wedding photographers, videographers, models and artists. The site is built around your work, with your photos big and sharp, and couples can check your date without a long email chain. I run every project myself, so you deal with me from the first message. I'm based in Sunderland, and I work with photographers anywhere in the UK over WhatsApp, the phone or Google Meet. Most websites cost between £1,500 and £5,000.

Websites I've built for photographers and creatives

The Lovely Photo Company in Sunderland does wedding photography and films. Its site has a showreel, a films page, a pricing page, and pages for the venues and areas it covers. Couples check their date with a short form that asks for the wedding date and the venue.

The portfolio galleries come from Google Drive folders, so Stacey updates her galleries straight from Google Drive.

Luke has been so brilliant throughout the full website building, he was very detailed in the planning stage and aesthetically creative for the design. My website is a huge improvement on my previous one, it flows incredibly well and he has designed it with my target audience in mind.

Why not just use Squarespace or a gallery platform?

If a website builder is working for you, keep it. You can set one up yourself, and the templates look good.

A built site is worth it once you've outgrown the builder. Maybe your site looks like every other photographer's. It might be slow on a phone, or it can't give you a page for each venue and area you shoot in.

I build on WordPress or Next.js (two common ways to build a website). My rule of thumb is Next.js for speed and custom work, and WordPress when you want to do a lot of the editing yourself. I still pick for each job. I've also compared WordPress, Wix or Squarespace for small businesses, if you're still weighing it up.

What a photography website needs

Your work comes first. The site's job is to show it well and make it easy to ask about a date.

  • Sharp images that load quicklyIf your photos need preparing for the web, I do that, and I check with you first. Images further down the page can load as people scroll.
  • Galleries you can update yourselfAdd new shoots and swap photos whenever you like.
  • An availability formIt asks for the date and the venue, so you know straight away if you're free.
  • Packages and pricesOn show, if you're happy to publish them.
  • Your venues and areasA page for each one you really cover.
  • Your films and showreelGive them a place of their own on the site.
  • A blog of real shootsWrite up the weddings and shoots you've actually done.

If you're a model or an artist, swap the packages for a portfolio, a press page and a way to book you.

From a free call to launch: 3 to 6 weeks for a standard site

  1. Call.

You tell me about your work, the shoots you want more of and how people get in touch now. The call is free and takes 15 minutes.

  2. Price.

I send you a fixed price in writing. You pay half to start.

  3. Build.

I build it. You see the site on a private preview link before it goes live and send changes by WhatsApp or email. Two rounds of changes are included. Nothing gets added that you didn't ask for.

  4. Launch.

You pay the other half, the site goes live, and it's yours.

A standard site takes 3 to 6 weeks. Once it's live, you can change your own words and photos whenever you like.

What it costs

Most websites I build cost between £1,500 and £5,000, and smaller sites start at £795. Online shops vary more, so I price them after a call.

Before I start, you get a fixed price in writing. You pay half to start and half before the site goes live. I'm not VAT registered, so the price you see is the total.

After launch, looking after the site is optional: Care+ website maintenance at £49 a month, or a plan shaped to your site, priced after a call.

Questions from photographers

Do photographers need a website?

Instagram and gallery sites can bring you work. A website is the place you own: your best work, your prices and your availability in one spot, in your name. Your social profiles can all point to it, so people land somewhere that's only about you.

What websites do photographers use?

Some photographers use builders and gallery platforms like Squarespace, Zenfolio or Showit, and some are happy there. Others want a site built around their work. I build on WordPress or Next.js, picked for each job. If you're deciding between builders, here's how WordPress, Wix and Squarespace compare.

Will my photos slow the website down?

Not if they're prepared properly. If the site needs your photos prepared for the web, I do that, and I check with you first. Images lower down the page can load as people scroll to them, so the first screen comes up quickly and your photos still look sharp.

Can I update my own galleries?

Yes. You can change your own words and photos whenever you like, without paying me. On The Lovely Photo Company's site, the galleries come from Google Drive folders.
