Free tools for small business websites

I build my own tools for checking and planning websites. Use them on your own site, or on any site you're curious about.

Teardown: check a page's SEO basics

Teardown is a free Chrome extension. Open it on a page and it shows you the heading outline, whether the page can be indexed, how long the title and description are, which images have no alt text, and which keywords come up most. It also lists the page's links and checks for a sitemap and a robots.txt file.

It's made for checking client sites, so it suits anyone who looks after a website. It points things out. It doesn't promise rankings, and a good score doesn't mean a page is perfect.

Rather a person looked at it?

MockupForge 3D: show a screenshot on a 3D device

MockupForge 3D turns a screenshot into a 3D device mockup. Drop in a screenshot, turn the device to the angle you want, and download a PNG. There are six devices, including an iPhone, an iPad and a MacBook. It's free and runs in your browser.

Mockups are handy when you're planning a site. If you'd like a website built for you, I can do that too.

What happens to your data

Teardown and MockupForge 3D each have their own privacy policy. Read it before you use the tool.

If a tool tells you something's wrong and you'd like help, send me your web address. I'll look at your site myself and send you the check within 2 working days.

Questions about free website checkers

What is a free website checker tool?

It's a tool that looks at a page and tells you what it finds, such as whether Google can index it, how the headings are set out and which images have no alt text. Teardown does that for one page at a time, in your browser. It points things out and doesn't promise rankings. For a person to look over your whole site, see the block above.

How does a site health checker work?

It reads a page and runs it against a list of checks, then shows what passed and what didn't. Teardown reads the page you have open in Chrome. It checks indexability, structure, the title and description, and image alt text, and gives a score out of 100.
