I handle web app development for businesses in Sunderland, the North East and across the UK: portals, online booking and customer accounts your customers log in to. I lead every project myself, so the person you brief is the person you keep dealing with.

Web apps I build

A web app is a website your customers log in to and use to get something done. Each of these takes a job off your hands, or off your customers':

  • Customer portalsCustomers see their orders, documents or job updates instead of ringing you to ask.
  • Booking systemsCustomers pick a time and book it themselves.
  • Accounts and member loginsDetails kept on file, and content or services only members see.
  • Quote, order and job toolsA quote, order or job moves from request to done in one place.

Need something else? Tell me what it should do, and I'll tell you how I'd build it.

Only need a site that shows your work? That's an ordinary business website. Tools for your own staff are custom software, and automating the boring jobs is business automation.

Built and live: Find My Machine for Smart Payment Solutions

I built "Find My Machine" for the Smart Payment Solutions site. A business owner answers a few questions, and it scores every card machine against their answers and shows the three best matches.

The first version came from Paul's spreadsheet. Now the site reads his products and rates from his Google Sheet, so when Paul changes a row, the site updates within about a minute.

How much does a web app cost?

Web apps are priced after a free 15-minute call, with no "from" figure. The price depends on what the app does, how many people use it and what it connects to.

After the call, I send you a fixed price in writing. You pay half to start and half before the app goes live. I'm not VAT registered, so the price is the total.

How a project works

  1. Call.

You tell me what the app needs to do and who'll use it.

  2. Price.

I write down what it will do and send a fixed price. You pay half to start.

  3. Build.

You see it on a private preview link and send changes by WhatsApp or email. Nothing gets added that you didn't ask for.

  4. Launch.

You pay the other half, and the app goes live for your customers.

Most web apps take a few weeks, and a small job can take days. Your quote sets the timescale, and any change after that is quoted in writing first.

Every project gets its own written agreement, which sets out the scope, timings and liability. My terms and privacy policy explain how I work.

Your web address and the accounts your app relies on, like Stripe or SumUp, Google and Xero, sit in your name. If you ever move on, you get everything within 10 working days.

After launch, you still deal with me. Support for a web app is quoted separately, because Care+ covers websites only.

Questions about web apps

How much does a custom web app cost?

It depends on what it does, how many people use it and what it connects to, so I price each one after a free call. You get a fixed price in writing, and it's the total, with no VAT to add.

Do I need a custom web app at all?

Often you don't. If a tool you can sign up to today does the job, use it: it costs less to start. A custom app makes sense when the ready-made tools don't fit how you work.

Are a web app and a website the same?

No. A website shows information: who you are and what you do. A web app is something people log in to and use, like a booking page or a customer portal.

Can a web app be a mobile app?

Partly. A web app runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, so nobody has to download it. I build web apps only, not apps for the Apple or Google store.

Can I convert my website into an app?

If you want customers to log in, book or manage an account on your site, yes: that's a web app, and I build those.

How much does an online booking system cost?

It's priced after a free call, like any web app. If a ready-made booking tool will do the job, I'll say so. For hire firms, Quote Desk for hire firms is coming soon.

How do I get a business web app?

Start with a free 15-minute call about what the app needs to do. I send a fixed price in writing, then build it, and you check it on a private preview link before it goes live. Comparing builders first? Read choosing who builds it.
