Everything stays in your browser. Nothing you type or pick is sent anywhere.

Example: Bramblewood Joinery, a made-up joiner in Sunderland. Type over it with your own.

Fitted Kitchens in Sunderland | Bramblewood Joinery

Made-to-measure kitchens, built in my workshop and fitted by my team. See recent kitchens, how a fitting works from first visit to final handle, and ask for a quote.

A Google result on a phone, as an approximate drawing

Approximate. Google may show a different title or snippet from the ones you write, and it cuts them to fit the screen.

What Google's guides say

  • Good: The page has a title. Google asks for one on every page. [1]
  • Good: No repeated keywords in the title. [1]
  • Good: The site name sits at one end, set apart with a hyphen, colon or pipe, as Google suggests. [1]
  • Good: There is a description written as a summary, not a list of keywords. [2]

About the limits. Every limit here is approximate, and my own setting rather than Google's: Google doesn't publish its fonts, sizes or cut-off widths, and its guides only say titles and snippets are cut “as needed, typically to fit the device width”. [1] [2] I measure in Arial with your browser's canvas. On a computer: titles at 20px on one line of about 600px, descriptions at 14px on two lines of the same width. On a phone: titles at 18px on two lines of about 326px, descriptions at 14px on three. Anything near the line is at risk, so leave some room.

What Google shows. Google builds the title of a result from several places, including the <title>, the main heading and og:title, and makes the snippet mostly from the page itself, using the meta description when it describes the page better. [1] [2]

How it's built

The preview measures your text the way a search result cuts it off, by width rather than letter count.
